Website Opened to Support Cross-cultural Care

HMS has launched a website that will allow users to share resources and exchange information on initiatives in cross-cultural education and training. The site was created by the Culturally Competent Care Education Committee (CCCEC) at HMS in collaboration with the Office for Diversity and Community Partnership. Members hope that by making information more accessible, patient care can be improved across the board and disparities can be reduced. Called the Online Resource Center, the site will serve students, faculty, staff, and the public. Currently, the center is collecting information and developing a guide of all the cross-cultural care educational resources and linkages available through HMS, its affiliates, and outside organizations.

Members hope that by making information more accessible, patient care can be improved across the board and disparities can be reduced.
The CCCEC expects the resource center to build a community through encouraging collaboration among those interested in cultural competency. The committee is compiling a database of HMS faculty involved in cross-cultural care education to provide initial contacts. In addition, a semi-annual newsletter will provide up-to-date information on the CCCEC’s work as well as other cross-cultural initiatives within and outside HMS.

Among the educational resources that the center provides online are a primer covering the principles and practical applications of cross-cultural care, a compilation of case studies, and links to other organizations’ teaching curricula.

To visit the Online Resource Center, please go to www.hms.harvard.edu/cccec.
