Scenes from Alumni Week
The second annual Division of Medical Sciences hooding ceremony for students receiving their PhDs took place on Class Day at the new research building. DMS conferred a total of 89 degrees for 2004–2005. In congratulating the new graduates, Nancy Andrews, the HMS dean for basic sciences and graduate studies, said, “We’ve invested in your education because you are our investment in the future.”
More than 100 people gathered in the new research building on June 7 for the MD–PhD Program’s annual reception and dinner honoring the year’s graduates. Nancy Andrews, HMS dean for basic sciences and graduate studies, gave the champagne toast and Jonathan Murnick (above) represented the class of 15 new MD–PhDs in making the closing remarks.

After the Alumni Day Symposium, HMS dean Joseph Martin addressed the audience about ways in which technology has “flattened” Harvard, enabling students and faculty to access a wide range of information and resources from anywhere on the globe by using the digital library and MyCourses, among other innovations. Martin noted, “We established new ways to relate to our broad community through messaging systems that permit me to send instant e-mails to a community in excess of 14,000 people.” | |
