Joseph Martin culminated his decade as dean of the Faculty of Medicine with a Class Day address titled “Listening and Leading.” He described six qualities of leadership at the heart of effective doctor–patient interaction. “Your ability to communicate—listening and telling—will determine in large measure your gift for healing,” he told the assembled graduates-to-be.

Julio FenkHSPH CLASS DAY: Health Care Is a Right, Asserts Former Mexico Health Minister
Now a visiting professor at HSPH, Julio Frenk, a former Health Minister of Mexico, called for greater equality in health care worldwide during his commencement address at the School. He said that disparities and paradoxes in care can be minimized through evidence-based policies and expanding efforts to transform ideals into action.

Even though cardiovascular disease ranks first among deadly pathologies, clinicians still have difficulty predicting who will get the disease and why. At the HMS Faculty Symposium during Alumni Week, HMS alums and others had a chance to hear about the latest research on the causes of cardiovascular disease and how these findings can be moved into the clinic.
